
The School Health EMT/Paramedic manages the day-to-day operations of the school health
office, provides immediate first aid and emergency care to students and staff, and supports
campus-wide health, safety, and wellness initiatives. Working under established medical
protocols and under the direct supervision of the Corporation School Nurse, this role ensures
a safe, healthy environment for the entire school community.
Daily Health Office Operations & Clinical Care
-Triage & Treatment: Assess and treat student and staff injuries, illnesses, and chronic
health complaints occurring on campus. Determine whether an individual can return to
class, requires rest/monitoring, or needs emergency escalation.
-Medication Administration: Safeguard, inventory, and administer routine and
emergency medications (e.g., EpiPens, inhalers, prescribed daily medication) according to
physician orders and district health protocols.
-Health Records: Maintain accurate, confidential digital logs of all health office visits,
treatments, and medication administration using the district's student information system.
Monitor student immunization compliance and emergency contact data.
-Family Communication: Contact parents or guardians regarding student illnesses,
injuries, early dismissals, or medication updates in a professional, compassionate manner.
Emergency Response & Preparedness
-First Responder: Serve as the designated medical lead during on-campus medical
emergencies, trauma incidents, or severe allergic reactions. Administer Basic Life Support
(BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) within your licensed scope of practice until EMS
arrives.
-Emergency Equipment: Regularly inspect, maintain, and restock first aid kits, classroom
emergency backpacks, AEDs, and emergency medical supplies across campus.
Wellness & Administrative Support
-Health Education: Assist the Corporation School Nurse with presenting health-related
topics (e.g., hygiene, disease prevention, CPR/first aid training) for students and faculty.
-Collaboration: Partner with school counselors, psychologists, administrators, and the
Corporation School Nurse to support students with mental health first aid needs or
individual healthcare plans.
-Incident Reports: Complete formal documentation and incident reports for any significant
injuries or accidents on school grounds, routing them promptly to the Corporation School
Nurse.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licensing
-High school diploma or GED equivalent.
-Valid and current State EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic license.
-Current CPR/BLS certification for Healthcare Providers. (ACLS/PALS preferred for
Paramedic applicants).
-Clean background check and ability to pass state-mandated fingerprinting/school
corporation clearance.
Skills & Competencies
-Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain level-headed, make quick clinical decisions, and
lead others during high-stress situations.
-Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively
with children, parents, teachers, and school leadership.
-Tech-Savvy: Proficient with computers, electronic health records, Google Suite, and
Microsoft Office.
-Child-Centric: Previous experience working with children, adolescents, or in an
educational/youth environment is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands
-Physical stamina required for frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and
crouching across school grounds and facilities.
-Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment or injured students (up to 50+ lbs) using proper
body mechanics.
Pay Rate
-Paramedic $20/hour
-EMT $14.96/hour
