About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Jersey Central Power & Light, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The position reports to the Manager, NJ Operations. The selected candidate may report to either Hopatcong or Morristown.

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $139,230 - $196,560.



This position supervises employees engaged in complex construction, maintenance, repair, testing and operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.

Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Directing and supervising employees engaged in electric transmission, substation, and distribution line work.
  • Directing substation workers in the construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of substation equipment of all voltages, including substation power transformers, circuit breakers, relays, switches, and other related equipment
  • Responding and supervising resources during emergency conditions to support public safety and system reliability, as well as supervising and dispatching service restoration crews during major storms.
  • Monitoring the activities of employees and enforcing conformance to established work practices and methods, (according to Preferred Practices Manual, Accident Prevention Handbook, Safety Specifications and Construction Standards).
  • Requesting and coordinating the availability of necessary equipment tools, materials and supplies required.
  • Coordinating work with other departments and scheduling construction, maintenance, repair or test work.
  • Demonstrating sound internal and external customer service.
  • Counseling employees, recommending corrective actions required to meet performance standards and acknowledging good work and work habits.
  • Implementing instruction and training of line employees in the established work practices and methods utilized throughout the department.
  • Administer Company and Regional Absenteeism Management Program and Regional Safety Plan.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training or 10+ years equivalent work experience.
  • Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • Advanced level knowledge of principles and operation of electric transmission and distribution systems.
  • Ability to learn various computer applications (CREWS, SAP, POWERON, GIS), as well as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read, alter and communicate complex prints and specifications to personnel.
  • Experience in a union environment, the ability to manage under the provisions of a union contract and apply all provisions without preference.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, engage and inspire people to excel in their roles.
  • Knowledge of applied electricity including AC and DC circuits and equipment.
  • Questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships.
  • Effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct work of others to ensure safety and produce satisfactory work results.
  • Knowledge of the practices and procedures Manual of Operations for clearing and grounding lines and equipment for the protection of the public, personnel and property.
  • Advanced knowledge of practices, principles of operation and the proper application of safety equipment, first aid and rescue.
  • Ability to set and communicate clear expectations, priorities and measures of success.
  • Solid understanding of National Electric Safety Code.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a personally owned or leased vehicle.
  • Possession of or ability to quickly obtain a valid CDL Operator's License.
  • Must be able to work in known and unknown environments and be able to travel over developed and undeveloped terrain.
