Sperton Global AS, a global recruitment and consulting firm with offices across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, is partnering with our client, a global leader in power technology and electrical infrastructure, to hire a Substation Sales Specialist – Optimization & Lifecycle in the United States.

Role Overview

The Substation Sales Specialist will act as a technical-commercial resource within the front-end sales organization, helping customers understand opportunities to improve the performance, reliability, maintenance, and lifecycle management of their substation assets.

Working alongside sales colleagues and technical specialists, you will engage with customers to understand their existing assets, operating environment, maintenance practices, challenges, and future requirements. You will then help translate those discussions into qualified opportunities and practical solutions.

This is not a purely transactional sales role. It requires someone who can speak credibly about substations with customers, understand how individual assets fit into the wider electrical system, identify potential areas for improvement, and communicate those opportunities commercially.

Responsibilities

• Engage with customers to understand their substation assets, operating environment, maintenance practices, challenges, and future requirements.
• Identify and develop opportunities related to substation optimization, maintenance, modernization, monitoring, and lifecycle services.
• Support the front-end sales organization in qualifying opportunities and determining the steps required to progress them.
• Build trusted working relationships with customer technical and operational stakeholders without necessarily owning the overall account relationship.
• Use your technical knowledge of substation equipment and systems to identify customer needs and potential service opportunities.
• Work alongside sales and technical colleagues during customer engagements and site visits, providing technical credibility and substation expertise.
• Translate technical discussions and customer challenges into commercially viable opportunities and customer value propositions.
• Support the development of proposals, pipeline opportunities, and sales activities from early-stage engagement through to order.
• Understand the customer's existing maintenance and operational approach, including how long assets have been in service and where lifecycle or modernization needs may exist.
• Participate in customer meetings, site visits, industry events, and trade shows to develop opportunities and strengthen market relationships.
• Collaborate with internal technical specialists and assessment resources to develop appropriate solutions for customer requirements.
• Share customer insights, market intelligence, and opportunities with the wider sales and service organization.
• Maintain accurate opportunity information and contribute to sales pipeline development and forecasting.
• Travel regularly across the United States to support customer engagements and opportunities.

Qualifications

• Candidate must already have work authorization that permits them to work in the United States. No sponsorship is available.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Business, or a related field; or equivalent experience (10+ years).
• 10+ years of relevant experience within the substation, electrical infrastructure, power systems, or related industry.
• Strong technical understanding of substation assets, systems, operations, maintenance, or lifecycle management.
• Experience working with substations in a customer-facing environment, ideally within operations & maintenance, field services, engineering services, technical sales, or service sales.
• Commercial experience with the ability to identify customer needs, develop opportunities, and support the sales process from initial engagement through proposal and order.
• Experience selling or supporting the sale of substation services, maintenance, modernization, optimization, monitoring, or related solutions is highly relevant.
• Strong customer-facing communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish credibility with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate customer challenges, identify appropriate next steps, and help move complex opportunities forward.
• Experience with utility, industrial, data center, oil & gas, renewable energy, or other large electrical infrastructure customers is advantageous.
• Experience working for a substation equipment, service, maintenance, engineering, or electrical infrastructure provider is strongly preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the United States, with occasional international travel as required.
• Strong presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
