As a Substation Physical Engineer, you will be involved in:

  • Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for medium to large scale utilities/substations (including basic general arrangement layouts, electrical arrangement layout drawing, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section views, grounding plans, AC and DC system drawings)
  • Perform advanced engineering studies and calculations such as voltage drop, conduit fill and grounding conductor sizing based on latest and greatest IEEE standards.
  • Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the internal teams and clients to meet project objectives

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):

  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience with US utility.
  • Bachelor of Science Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial). Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Direct US Substation primary design experience with National grid NE, NY and or PPL/RIE.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs.
  • Basic understanding of P&C drawings such as one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematic drawings to be able to coordinate well with the P&C team as and when the need arises.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies is a plus.
  • General experience with electrical clearances and insulation levels in AIS is highly preferred.
  • Experience with NEC/IEEE standards pertaining to cable ampacity, conduit fill, sizing of trays, raceways and duct banks is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in related field
  • Working knowledge of Substation Primary – Sub Physical design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical /MicroStation software.
  • Experience with Bluebeam.
