Job Description

Substation Operations Officer – 6-8 Months Maximum Term Contract – South Metro Depot

Our Substation Operations Officer will coordinate and allocate resources for the delivery of transmission switching services for customers both within and external to Western Power. Your role is to enable the effective and efficient construction and maintenance of the transmission infrastructure and commissioning of new plant in line with safety and design standards, including the updating and coordination of timely submissions of outage requests.

Your role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. Your Role in Action

  • Take personal accountability for safety in the work environment and ensure safe work practises are followed and a safe work environment maintained.
  • Plan for work in advance and adapt plan when resources are pulled away for other business priorities or system conditions change.
  • Allocate on-call substation first response employees to maintain the integrity of the network with minimal loss of supply.
  • Allocate resources for the delivery of transmission switching services for customers both within and external to Western Power to enable the effective and efficient construction and maintenance of the transmission infrastructure and commissioning of new plant in line with safety and design standards.
  • Take personal accountability for work performance and be open to other contributions. Work cooperatively within the team and across Western Power.
  • Provide specialist guidance and share technical knowledge and experience to others within the immediate and wider teams as required.
  • Ensure feedback to stakeholders to keep them informed particularly if job not going to plan where appropriate.
  • Respond to customer enquiries, keep them informed of project progress, communicate what their obligations are and deliver based on available resources.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Possess Cert III (ESI Distribution / Transmission Overhead / Power Systems Distribution Cable Jointing) and/or Electrical Trade Certificate, and/or Current WA Electrical Workers License endorsed for Electrical Fitting.
  • Alternatively if you do not hold any of the above qualifications, a Diploma in Project Management and solid understanding of the Network will be considered.
  • Western Power Switching levels, eNar/Transmission and/or Distribution will be advantageous.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and/or operational experience in the Networks business.
  • Solid knowledge of scheduling and project management tools and processes.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous experience in the effective and efficient allocation of resources.
  • Technical knowledge of Transmission switching & outage techniques and practices.
  • Sound knowledge of safety policies and procedures, particularly operating field practices and procedures applying to the power system.
