Job Description

MAS is seeking a Substation & Commissioning Engineer to join its engineering team, supporting projects in power generation and electrical power systems

The role involves active participation across the full project lifecycle — from engineering design and configuration of protection and control systems to testing, commissioning, and final delivery The engineer will work on generator-related applications, substations, and automation systems, ensuring reliable and safe system performance

The position requires strong technical knowledge of electrical power systems and protection principles, hands-on commissioning experience, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement protection and control schemes for electrical systems, including generators and substations, defining protection philosophies and specifying key equipment ( CTs, VTs, grounding systems).
  • Configure protection relays and systems, including settings, control logic, and communication interfaces, ensuring proper coordination and integration.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation (configuration files, test procedures, reports, as-built documentation).
  • Plan and execute FAT/SAT and commissioning activities, including testing, validation, and system readiness checks (e.g., secondary injection, functional and end-to-end tests).
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in protection and control systems, including misoperations and failures, implementing corrective actions.
  • Support installation, panel integration, and project execution, working closely with engineering, project, and site teams.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (AEI/TEI or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems, with focus on protection and commissioning
  • Hands-on experience in relay configuration, testing, and commissioning
  • Solid understanding of power system protection principles (fault analysis, selectivity, coordination).
  • Experience in project-based and field environments
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Fluency in English, availability for travel, and valid driving license

Considered a Strong Asset

  • Experience with relay testing equipment (e.g., ISA, Omicron).
  • Familiarity with Siemens DIGSI or similar tools.
  • Experience with excitation systems (AVR) for synchronous generators.
