The ideal candidate brings deep technical subrogation expertise, proven experience managing TPAs, and the ability to influence outcomes across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Key Responsibilities

Subrogation Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the subrogation and recovery program across carrier-managed and TPA-managed claim portfolios.

  • Establish and maintain subrogation standards, best practices, escalation protocols, and authority guidelines.

  • Drive early identification of recovery opportunities and minimize recovery leakage.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on complex, high-exposure recovery matters.

Carrier-Managed Claims Oversight

  • Provide guidance and oversight to internal claims teams handling subrogation.

  • Support complex liability analysis, recovery strategy, negotiations, and litigation decisions.

  • Partner with Claims Leadership, Legal, Finance, and Underwriting to align recovery objectives.

TPA Governance & Performance Management

  • Oversee TPAs responsible for subrogation on delegated claims.

  • Establish performance expectations, KPIs, reporting standards, and service level agreements.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, audits, and file quality assessments.

  • Lead remediation efforts and continuous improvement initiatives with TPAs.

Vendor & Counsel Management

  • Manage external recovery vendors and panel counsel supporting subrogation efforts.

  • Review litigation strategies, budgets, and outcomes to ensure cost-effective recoveries.

  • Maintain vendor scorecards and ensure compliance with engagement and billing guidelines.

Financial Reporting & Analytics

  • Track and report on subrogation performance, including gross and net recoveries, cycle time, and conversion rates.

  • Partner with Finance to ensure accurate recovery posting, allocation, and reconciliation.

  • Deliver insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contractual requirements related to subrogation.

  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and strong internal controls.

  • Coordinate with Legal and Compliance on complex or disputed recovery matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in claims and subrogation/recovery.

  • Demonstrated experience managing carrier-managed and TPA-managed claims.

  • Strong knowledge of subrogation principles, liability analysis, negotiation, and litigation management.

  • Proven ability to manage vendor and TPA relationships with measurable performance outcomes.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • • Experience with complex or high-severity claims.

  • • Experience in multi-jurisdictional or multinational claims programs.

  • • Professional designation (e.g., CPCU, AIC, SCLA) or advanced degree.

  • • Familiarity with modern claims management systems and recovery analytics.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to lead a high-impact recovery function with visibility to senior leadership.

  • Collaborative environment with Claims, Legal, Finance, and Underwriting partners.

  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and career development opportunities.
