Senior Electrical Safety Officer (Subject Matter Expert 2)

Client: Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)
Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Work Schedule: Full-time
Salary: $93/hr - $100/hr

Candidates must meet all the following criteria to be considered:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required for DOE Q-level clearance eligibility.
  • Minimum education/experience: BS degree and 7 years of field experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of NFPA 70E, and strong familiarity with NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA electrical safety standards.

Impact

As a Senior Electrical Safety Officer at LANL, you will play a critical leadership role in advancing a strong culture of electrical safety at one of the nation’s most advanced research and development laboratories. Your expertise will help ensure safe practices in support of vital scientific and national security missions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as the lead contact and administrator of the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
  • Provide direct electrical safety guidance to employees, project managers, and field personnel.
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform field inspections to detect and mitigate electrical hazards.
  • Lead technical reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) plans.
  • Develop and revise codes, specifications, and safety standards for electrical systems.
  • Provide high-level technical problem-solving support to engineers and scientists.
  • Evaluate equipment and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Perform detailed calculations of incident severity using established electrical formulas.
  • Draft, update, and enforce LANL electrical safety policies and design standards.

Minimum

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 7+ years of field experience, or equivalent education/experience combination.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, particularly NFPA 70E.
  • Experience in electrical engineering applications including low voltage AC/DC systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and common PC software tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex data clearly.
  • Able to pass Radiological Worker II training.

Desired Skills

  • Prior experience working in DOE or high-security environments.
  • Knowledge of LANL-specific electrical systems and safety procedures.
  • Expertise in incident analysis and safety auditing.
