The opportunity
The Subcontracts Delivery Manager (SDLM) is responsible for the commercial, contractual, and operational management of construction and installation subcontracts on major HVDC projects from contract award through to final completion and closeout.
The role acts as the primary commercial interface between Hitachi Energy and its subcontractors, ensuring contractual obligations are met while protecting project objectives relating to safety, cost, schedule, quality, and risk.
Working closely with Construction, Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Cost Control, and Contract Management teams, the SDLM is responsible for proactively managing subcontract performance throughout project execution. This includes administering subcontract agreements, managing variations and change orders, assessing and resolving claims, negotiating commercial matters, monitoring performance, and identifying risks and opportunities that may impact project delivery.
A key responsibility of the role is maintaining strong commercial control of subcontract packages. This includes managing payment applications, verifying invoices, tracking costs, preparing reports, supporting cost recovery initiatives, administering contractual changes, and ensuring that all commercial matters are properly documented and managed. The SDLM also plays a key role in the negotiation of final accounts and the successful closeout of subcontracts.
The position requires strong stakeholder management and communication skills, as the SDLM regularly interfaces with subcontractors, site management, project leadership, engineers, contract managers, and clients. Successful Subcontracts Delivery Managers typically possess extensive experience in construction, infrastructure, energy, utilities, or EPC projects, combined with strong knowledge of contract administration, subcontract management, claims management, change control, commercial management, risk management, and project delivery.
