About Our Organization

Founded in 1968, the Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally, and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by Black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society.

The Studio Store Sales Leadwill be the specialist in all Studio Store products, launches,collaborations,and featured Black owned brands.The Sales Lead has incredible knowledge of store products and brands, acting primarily as the main touchpoint forvisitors andcustomers.This Lead is extremely passionate about Black art, culture, and history, andis excited to inform the Studio Museum community about products and brands that echo the Museum’s mission.This roleworks closelywithStudio Store Marketing and Store Manager, as well as the Visitor Experience Associates to ensure excellent standards for community engagementand sales floor maintenance.The Studio StoreSalesLead will alsobe responsible forthe upkeep and stock of displays,shelving,and store inventory.  This role reports to the Studio Store Marketing and Store Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent compliance with protocols for handling cash, creditcard, electronic transactions, andpersonal information
  • Ensure store inventory on the floor and in storage room is well-maintained and organized
  • Maintainand supportstrongmerchandising standards
  • Manageandmaintainmerchandising standards for theVisitor Associatesteam
  • Ensure information about new products, upcoming events, and inventory changes are shared with Visitor Experience Associates prior to shifts
  • Communicate stock needs with Inventory Stock Associate for transportation to the Museum
  • Practice excellent customer service to ensurea great experiencefor all visitors to the store
  • Interact with members of the VE team to instill enthusiasm with store products and be the point person for questionsregardingstore products. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Requiredto work weekends andsomeeveningsforspecial eventsand extended Museum hours
  • Proactive approach, patience, and readinessregardingprocesses, merchandising, and overall store maintenance
  • Able tomaintaintheir composure and think and communicate clearly in emotionally charged and emergency situations
  • Superior interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Desire to learn and develop excellent knowledge of products
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Outgoing, people-centered, andhighly motivated
  • Previousexperience with Shopify and POS is a plus
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience incustomer-facing role in hospitality or retail, preferably in a museum or nonprofit environment. 
  • Passion for Blackart,historyandculture
  • Experience with cash handling protocols

Physical Demands

  • Able to sit or stand forlong periods.  
  • Able to climb several flights of stairs.  
  • Able to lift a minimum of35pounds.  

Work Environment

  • This position is a non-exempt position and may require working more than forty (40) hours during a work week.
  • The regular work week for this position will be4days,withFridays,Saturdaysand Sundaysbeingrequired, and mayinclude holidays asrequiredto fulfill responsibilities.  
  • Both the administrative offices and the Museum are wheelchair accessible. Other accessibility accommodations can be further discussed. 

Compensation

$30 per hour
