Job Description
General Description:
The Student Support Specialist provides customer service functions, enrollment and program support for NOVA Workforce. This position will be responsible to serve the students and NOVA Community at large in a timely fashion.

*This position is not eligible for telework.*


Duties and Tasks:
  • Provide quality customer service
  • Identify and assess customer’s needs to achieve satisfaction
  • Handle customer complaints and provide appropriate resolutions and alternatives
  • Perform registration tasks and/or provide guidance to students
  • Enter and maintain accurate data into the student information system
  • Issue enrollment confirmation emails and letters
  • Troubleshoot and resolve enrollment problems
  • Ensure that instructors have all instructional materials needed
  • Organize and maintain files and records
  • Assist program developers/managers/coordinators to ensure logistical arrangements for programs are met
  • Provide general office support tasks
  • Assist with the marketing of classes
  • Perform other related duties as required

*This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.


Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, instructors and staff; especially as part of a team

  • Ability to develop and prepare reports
  • Ability to provide accurate information and courteous customer service
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers
  • Attention to detail and ability to take initiative


Minimum Work Experience:
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in an office setting with office procedures, managing files, schedules and paperwork.
  • Customer service and forward-facing experience.
  • Administrative office experience
  • Must be willing to work at multiple Workforce locations due to the needs of the business


Additional Considerations
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experince working with enrollment.
  • Experience working with under-served and underrepresented populations
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
