The Candidate will assist with NSURP by develop a strategy, and plan for the recruitment of students and expansion into different disciplines. They will mentor undergraduate students in the biomedical sciences (now Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer), organize yearly student progress meetings, help evaluate program outcomes with college of education, and contribute to educational research. This position includes program development and administration, one-on-one student mentoring, and teaching small groups and credit classes that promote the successful completion undergraduate research projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the strategy and plan for the recruitment of students.
  • Develop goals and strategies for department-specific requests and work closely with other institutions to identify recruits, support admissions processes, and help students matriculate into PhD programs.
  • Seek out new resources, training opportunities, and best practices in retention for graduate student success.
  • Establish, strengthen, and maintain relationships between the National Summer Undergraduate Research Project (NSURP) program, the institution, partnering institutions, and NSURP alumni.
  • Develop and facilitate seminars for professional development, with topics including responsible conduct of research, career exploration, use of individual development programs, science communication (written and oral), training in teaching. Work with PI to develop more online modules in interview and presentation skills, how to think about generating hypotheses, and more.
  • Facilitate student peer mentoring sessions and conduct mentor training for graduate students to mentor graduate students or undergraduates.
  • Support undergraduate students in utilizing campus resources and navigating their graduate programs. Work to create a module with the MENTOR institute on online mentoring.
  • Organize (plan, implement and execute) social events to help build community with students.
  • Gather participant data, conduct needs assessments, analyze program effectiveness, and create reports to guide programming (within the confines of our IRB), inform stakeholders, and support grant submissions.
  • Develop digital resources and effective strategies for communicating across all constituencies.
  • Content development and subsequent coordination for the summer program and events throughout the year.
  • Attend, host and present at national meetings to recruit students and publicize NSURP.
  • Manage travel activities for conferences for students able to travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
