LOCATION: Webster County High School

REPORTS TO: Principal / Assistant Principal

EMPLOYMENT TERM: 200

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid WV Teaching Certificate endorsed in an area of secondary or middle school education.

SALARY: Based on the state-mandated salary schedule and applicable county/district guidelines, according to qualifications and experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Support and Outreach Specialist serves as a key member of the school's student services team, supporting student academic success, attendance improvement, family engagement, and school-community communication. The position uses student achievement and instructional data to support targeted interventions, assists teachers and students in identifying learning needs, coordinates attendance and engagement supports, and strengthens communication with families and the community to improve student outcomes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Support & Academic Interventions

• Assist in the development and implementation of intervention strategies to improve student attendance, engagement, and academic success.
• Monitor attendance and academic data and collaborate with school teams to identify students in need of additional support.
• Support intervention planning and follow-up in coordination with appropriate school personnel and established school procedures.
• Support implementation of attendance, academic, and student recognition programs.
• Create and maintain student data notebooks or other data-tracking tools to help students understand progress, set goals, and monitor growth.
• Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families to support student success.

Student Achievement & Data Support

• Support teachers and students in using assessment and instructional data to inform instruction and improve student achievement.
• Facilitate data conversations with students and collaborate with teachers to identify class-wide and individual areas of need.
• Assist teachers in prioritizing West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards (WVCCR) and instructional strategies based on identified learning gaps.
• Assist with preparation for Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings, including organizing relevant student achievement data and instructional resources, and participate in PLC meetings as assigned.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop and review standards-aligned instructional questions and learning activities based on identified areas of need.

Family Engagement, Outreach & School Communications

• Facilitate communication with parents/guardians regarding attendance, academic progress, student recognition, and available school supports.
• Assist in planning and implementing family engagement activities and outreach initiatives.
• Build positive relationships with families to promote consistent student participation and success.
• Assist with promoting school programs, events, student achievements, and family engagement opportunities through approved school social media accounts, school websites, and other communication platforms.
• Help develop clear, positive school communications that strengthen school-family-community partnerships.

Collaboration & School Support

• Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, administrators, and community partners to support student success.
• Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, contacts, data reviews, and services provided.
• Support overall school improvement efforts related to attendance, engagement, instruction, and achievement.
• Perform other duties related to student support, outreach, and school improvement as assigned by the principal or assistant principal.

Required Qualifications

• Certification in a secondary or middle school content area
• Experience working with students in a school or youth-serving setting.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to analyze student data and support data-informed intervention and instructional planning.
• Must have satisfactory evaluations, when applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with attendance intervention programs and student support services.
• Experience using assessment and instructional data to identify learning needs and support student achievement.
• Experience supporting teachers with standards alignment, instructional planning, or data-informed practices.
• Background in family engagement, school communications, social media, or community outreach initiatives.
