Student Support Adviser - Summer Start Programme 5 Month Fixed-Term opportunity beginning October 2026

Join the Summer Start team and make a meaningful difference to students as they begin their university journey. Summer Start is a six-week transition programme that supports eligible school-leavers to gain credits, build confidence and successfully navigate the move into tertiary study. As the Student Support Adviser, you'll be at the heart of this experience, providing pastoral care, wellbeing support and practical guidance to help students overcome barriers and thrive.

• Provide holistic support, advice and pastoral care to students throughout their Summer Start journey.
• Identify students who may be at risk academically or personally and connect them with appropriate support services.
• Support recruitment, application, enrolment and conversion activities, helping students successfully transition into Semester One study.
• Monitor student engagement, achievement and programme participation, maintaining accurate records and reporting.
• Partner with academic staff, student support teams and service divisions to deliver a coordinated and student-centred support experience.
• Help deliver programme events, whakawhanaungatanga activities and initiatives that foster connection, belonging and student success.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement and ongoing success of the Summer Start programme.

This is a full-time 5 Month Fixed-Term role (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday). The salary range is $68,000 - $79,000pa pro rata.

You are a compassionate and organised professional who is passionate about supporting students to succeed. You enjoy building trusted relationships, navigating complex situations with sound judgement, and working collaboratively to create positive outcomes for diverse student communities.

• Experience working with students or within a tertiary education, education, customer service or advisory environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusted relationships with students, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Confidence supporting people through challenges and connecting them with appropriate services and resources.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to different audiences.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• An understanding of equity, inclusion and the diverse experiences of Māori and Pacific students in Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and confidence working with databases or student management systems.
• A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across teams and contribute to a supportive student experience.

Desirable experience includes student support, pastoral care, mentoring, event delivery, or working within tertiary education and culturally diverse communities.
