Student Summer Skills Incentive (SKILL) Program – Summer Student Opportunities
Northside Community Guest Home – North Sydney, NS
Northside Community Guest Home is currently accepting applications for Summer Student positions through the Student Summer Skills Incentive (SKILL) Program. These positions provide students with meaningful work experience in a long-term care environment while developing valuable transferable skills in healthcare, recreation, administration, and human resources.
We are hiring for the following positions:
Physiotherapy Assistant
Working under the direction of the Physiotherapist/PTAs, responsibilities may include:
- Assisting residents with walking programs and prescribed exercises
- Supporting residents during physiotherapy and mobility activities
- Assisting with the setup, cleaning, and organization of physiotherapy equipment
- Encouraging resident engagement and promoting mobility and independence
- Providing assistance with transportation of residents to and from therapy sessions
- Other duties as assigned
Recreation Assistant
Working under the direction of the Recreation Department, responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with the planning and delivery of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities
- Supporting residents during group and individual programs
- Assisting with outings, special events, and celebrations
- Encouraging resident participation and engagement
- Preparing activity supplies and program spaces
- Assisting with decorating and event setup
- Building positive relationships with residents and families
- Other duties as assigned
Human Resources Assistant (Administrative)
Working under the direction of the Human Resources Coordinator, responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with recruitment (phone calls/emails)
- Preparing employee files and maintaining confidential records
- Supporting data entry and administrative projects
- Supporting filing, scanning, document management, and record retention activities
- Participating in special HR projects as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Position(s) Details
- Duration: 8-week summer placement
- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Wage: $16.75/hour
- Location: Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney, NS
Work schedules may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on operational requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be entering or continuing full-time post-secondary studies immediately following the summer work term
- Be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary program prior to applying
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be able to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills
- Have an interest in healthcare, recreation, administration, human resources, or related fields
Preference may be given to students whose field of study aligns with the position being applied for.
