Job Description

As an integral member of the RecSports Department, this person will support onboarding, training, and event planning.This position will focus on the development of over 400 student employees.

  • Supervises the RecSports Employee Council (REC), providing leadership and direction for all council initiatives.
  • Recruit/hire/train/oversee student employees.
  • Develops and implements a robust training and development program for all student staff tailored to enhance career readiness competencies. Coordinates three key department signature events
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with university-mandated training, managing the renewal process for all student staff.
  • Establishes and oversees a student staff evaluation process to assess and document skills development and competency acquisition.
  • Collaborates with the assistant director to establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure and report on the success of the student staff program.
  • Designs and implements a comprehensive orientation program to integrate new hires into the department effectively.
  • Manages selection, purchasing, and distribution of student staff apparel.
  • Manage alumni engagement efforts by keeping accurate records and connecting with alum to foster ongoing involvement, mentorship opportunities, and support for current students.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: Experience working with students and/or student groups in a university campus recreation program or working with human resources within a college setting.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to work with diverse constituencies, prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, work with limited supervision, supervise, and delegate work to student staff, exercise good judgment, handle different situations with confidence and leadership, and be flexible; Knowledge of supervising and programming recreation facilities; Ability to use PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft office suite; Strong skills in verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree
  • Experience: Experience working with students in university campus recreation program; Experience supervising student employees; Presentation and team building facilitation experience.

  • Anticipated hiring range: $48,000-$52,000
