We are looking for a Student Software Engineer to join our Java Core team. In this role, you will not only support building applications - you will also support our Java developers across all agile teams.

WHAT YOUR NEXT JOB WILL BE ABOUT 

As a Student Software Engineer in the Java Core team, your mission is to create hyper-productivity through AI enablement while simultaneously raising the quality, security, and consistency across teams and codebases. You will help identify opportunities to leverage AI in software development and contribute to building scalable tools and solutions that enable developers to work more efficiently and deliver high-quality software.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Java developers across all agile teams with cross-cutting tooling, standards, and best practices

  • Exploring and implementing new ways to leverage AI, including GitHub Copilot and other AI-powered developer tools, to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and the overall developer experience

  • Taking ownership of smaller applications and general shared libraries used across the organisation

  • Working with modern technologies and frameworks, including Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Kubernetes/Docker.

The Java team is responsible for a wide range of in-house developed applications. So, you will get the opportunity to work in different business areas and with different technologies.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING 

We are looking for a new colleague who: 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, with plans to continue into a Master's degree. Ideally, you are in the final stage of your Bachelor’s degree or have recently completed it.

  • Has hands-on experience with software development through university, personal or hobby projects.

  • Is passionate about software engineering and enjoys building tools that solve real problems.

  • Is motivated to become a highly skilled software engineer and continuously strives to improve their technical and professional skills

  • Writes clean, secure code and has a strong focus on quality and consistency

  • Values testing and writes thorough unit and integration tests to ensure reliable software (familiarity with Test-Driven Development is a plus)

  • Is curious about emerging technologies, engineering productivity, and AI-assisted development

  • Enjoys learning and experimenting with innovative approaches
