Huggins Hospital offers a variety of educational opportunities for students either in high school or healthcare affiliated post-secondary educational programs. These opportunities consist of both clinical and non-clinical areas, and are supported through the Department of Human Resources.
Clinical Rotation Students & Medical Students – Students will observe and participate in clinical departments in order to complete course work requirements. Students must be in a healthcare affiliated educational program, with a current contract approved by Human Resources. Students will have supervised direct patient contact consistent with the course curriculum and the supervising department head, to the extent that Huggins Hospital’s Risk Management has approved. Clinical competencies and objectives of the internship must accompany the student from the affiliated program, and evaluations may be conducted at the conclusion. It is up to Department Director and Vice President to determine whether they can accommodate a clinical student.
School-to-work high school students – High schools students that are part of the “HOSA-Future Health Professionals Organization” to prepare high school students to enter the health care field or other school-to-work agreements. Students spend time of their school day in various departments of the hospital and receive school credit for this time. HOSA students do have supervised direct patient care, and are similar to clinical rotation students. It is up to Department Director and Vice President to determine if they desire to host a school-to-work student.
Process:
Human Resources is responsible for the regulation of students and has responsibility for the placement of clinical internships, job shadows and observation students.
