Are you curious about how risk is managed in one of the fastest-moving industries in the world? At MFT Energy, we are looking for a Student Risk Analyst who wants to gain hands-on experience working with data and risk management in a dynamic energy trading environment.

The role as a Student Risk Analyst:

You will join our Finance, Risk & Treasury department, where you will be part of our Risk team working alongside experienced colleagues with deep industry expertise. The team works closely with stakeholders across the trading organization to provide transparency on the company’s overall risk profile and support informed decision-making.

In a business characterized by rapidly changing market conditions and significant volatility, the Risk team helps ensure a responsible balance between risk and return across all our trading activities.

In this role, you will work with a wide range of datasets, including trade data and market price data that form the foundation of our risk calculations. Through this work, you will contribute to maintaining reliable risk data and develop a strong understanding of how risk management supports a modern energy trading company.

The position offers a steep learning curve in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

Your key responsibilities:

• Working with large trade and market price datasets to ensure the quality of risk calculations

• Developing data quality checks within our in-house data models

• Improving existing tools and developing new solutions (primarily using SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps)

• Automating tasks related to reporting, data processing and analysis

• Supporting the risk business partners with daily ad hoc tasks and analysis

• Gaining exposure to different types of risks including liquidity, market, credit and operational risk

Your qualifications and personal skills:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics or a similar field.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and take initiative

• Coding skills are a plus but not required. The most important thing is an interest in learning, as much of the data work will involve SQL

• Interest in energy markets and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

• Curious and open-minded approach to learning and problem-solving
