POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Schedule will vary according to requirements and responsibilities. Shifts include a paid meal break where applicable. Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. Shifts can include the following: days, afternoons, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

This position assists in the planning of individualized, goal centered programs for adults with developmental disabilities within all Lawson Ministries settings, community. This position promotes an environment and programming that is supportive and nurturing to individuals who require support.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in promoting an environment that is both supportive and nurturing

  • Assist staff with ensuring that the needs of the residents are met i.e. food, clothing, cleaning of the home, as well as participation in and coordination of meal preparation and the provision of personal care needs as required.

  • Assist the participants in meeting their emotional and psychological needs by participating in the planning of the treatment/rehabilitation plans in conjunction with participants, team members, other staff and professionals.

  • Review and have a working knowledge of the treatment procedures for each individual participant in your specific program.

  • Assist in supporting the efforts made to meet participants' spiritual needs by way of a demonstrated interest and participation in programming activities where necessary.

  • Working cooperatively with residential staff and when necessary day program team members in providing coordinated and consistent approaches to resident care.

  • Ensure the proper and accurate recording of all daily logs, shift reports, incident reports, etc.

  • Assist staff to ensure that all required professional appointments for residents are scheduled, that all required documentation is prepared as required and direction given to the staff accompanying the resident.

  • Ensure the general upkeep, cleanliness and maintenance of residence and main office.

  • Assist with the transport of clients to and from specific destinations, using program vehicles, when necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisors, Program Directors, or Executive Director.

  • Regular interaction with Program Supervisor and other team members

External:

  • None

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports directly to: Program Supervisors or Program Directors

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:

  • None

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Working environment is in the Service Users’ homes in the community, the office, or as assigned all in generally agreeable conditions. Locations may vary within the Lawson Ministries community settings; this will be determined by the Program Director/Supervisor and is based on the needs of the Service Users.

  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed a minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary education in the Human Services Field or equivalent

This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:

  • All youth aged 15 to 30 years may be eligible participants;

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,

  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 months of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and vulnerable populations preferable in a residential or day program setting.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Computer experience with electronic scheduling and MS Office.

  • Required to have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, and provide an original copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army

  • Pharmacology training and experience in medication administration an asset.

  • Lift and transfer training and experience an asset.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and disciplined.

  • Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the psychological and social dynamics of working with developmental and behaviourally challenged individuals.

  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
