Position Summary
The Student Reception & Package Desk Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service at the reception desk, managing package distribution and tracking, answering questions, and supporting daily administrative operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, professional, and committed to creating a welcoming environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reception & Customer Service
- Greet students, staff, faculty, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries.
- Provide accurate information regarding office services, programs, and campus resources.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area.
- Monitor office traffic and assist visitors with locating appropriate resources or personnel.
Package Management
- Receive, log, organize, and distribute incoming packages and mail.
- Verify recipient identification before package release.
- Maintain accurate package tracking records using designated software and procedures.
- Notify recipients of package arrivals in a timely manner.
- Assist with inventory management and storage organization.
- Report package discrepancies, lost items, or delivery issues to the supervisor.
Administrative Support
- Perform basic clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, data entry, and document preparation.
- Assist with departmental projects and events as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and university information.
- Support office operations by completing additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Current CWRU student enrolled in good academic standing.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
Preferred
- Previous customer service, reception, or administrative experience.
- Experience working in a university office environment.
- Familiarity with package tracking systems or inventory management tools.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to organize and transport mail and packages within the office.
Work Schedule
- Flexible schedule based on student availability and departmental needs.
- Working between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Approximately 15-20 hours per week during the academic year.

Compensation
- $15.73/hr. Hourly rate in accordance with CWRU Student Employment guidelines and departmental budget.
