Job Description

The Student Programs Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission, growth, and impact of the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Institute (UNHSI). Sustainability at UNH reflects a collective commitment to human dignity for all people and ecological integrity for all places and is a core institutional value.

This position provides essential program coordination and relationship-management support across several signature UNHSI initiatives. The coordinator will manage day-to-day implementation of student engagement programs, support experiential learning opportunities, and cultivate partnerships with campus and community partners. The role is highly collaborative and outward-facing, working closely with students, staff faculty, and partners to strengthen UNH’s sustainability student programs and expand engagement opportunities.

This position will require a consistent on-campus presence, including some evenings and weekends.

Duties/Responsibilities

Student Sustainability Programs Coordination (50%)

  • Coordinate and implement Sustainability Internship programs in collaboration with supervisor and UNHSI staff

  • Maintain program timelines, calendars, and internal benchmarks

  • Develop and update recruitment, promotional, and program materials

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Interns, host departments, and advisors

  • Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, communications, and program events

  • Coordinate program logistics in partnership with the UNHSI team

  • Train and provide near-peer mentorship for the Sustainability Post-Undergraduate Innovation Fellow, whose position will include operational aspects of the internship program and related projects

  • Support campus projects that involve sustainability interns, including Trash2Treasure and Bee Campus/Pollinator Gardens

  • Support student coordination, curriculum development and leadership of student peer engagement efforts such as the Changemaker Fellows Program, designed to give first-year students at UNH a supportive network of like-minded, sustainability-oriented peers, expose them to sustainability programs, and advance their leadership skills; and Sustainability Advocates, a residence hall peer-to-peer education and engagement program that aims to encourage sustainable thought and action across campus and cultivate student sustainability leadership and expertise

  • Work with UNH admissions and SI marketing and communications team to recruit incoming UNH students into the Changemaker Fellowship program

  • Work with UNH Housing and Residential Life staff to engage and inform Hall Directors and RAs about the Advocates program, and to garner their support in recruiting and supporting Advocates in each residence hall on campus

Mentorship, Advising, and Supervision (40%)

  • Provide supervision, advising, mentorship and support for students participating in, or considering participating in, sustainability internships and other student programs

  • Recruit, train, and supervise student employees to work on hands-on sustainability programs, student sustainability engagement and peer mentorship

  • Assist interns with the development of work plans, goals, and assessment

  • Support students in navigating challenges with professional development, administrative tasks, etc., related to their existing or prospective program participation

  • Build relationships with other departments and develop shared understanding of how sustainability programs can complement and advance various majors, and share that knowledge with students

  • Become knowledgeable about campus life resources available to students in need, and actively promote those resources

  • Be a point of connection, support, and enthusiasm for students

Program Operations, Communications and Reporting (10%)

  • Participate in Sustainability Institute staff meetings and planning activities

  • Work with UNHSI Communications team as well as the various student employees to bring visibility to the work of student interns, peer mentors and leaders, and promote participation in the programs and initiatives

  • Provide program data and metrics for annual reports, fundraising efforts, and STARS sustainability reporting

  • Support evaluation of program outcomes and continuous improvement efforts

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience

  • Experience building relationships with diverse stakeholders including students, staff, faculty, and community partners

  • Experience planning and delivering professional programs or events

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in program coordination and logistics

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to varied audiences

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, team environment

  • Willingness and ability to physically support programs when needed (i.e. lift 20 pounds, get dirty, etc.)

  • Willingness to work on campus most of the time (not remotely)

  • Demonstrated understanding of sustainability aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and adaptability

  • Proficiency with Outlook, Teams, SharePoint as collaboration tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Facilitation and presentation experience with small and large groups

  • Experience working in higher education or experiential learning programs

  • Background in sustainability, community engagement, or student life

  • Experience supporting experiential learning or professional development programs

Compensation Pay Range:

$47,920.00 - $85,410.00
