Southwest Behavioral & Health Services (SBH) is offering Peer Support Specialist Training for students enrolled in a qualified school. This program, hosted by our Prevention Program, will be guided by SB&H professionals to help you gain and cultivate skills and knowledge to become Peer Support Certified. This invaluable hands-on experience will empower you to become an effective contributor within your community and workplace.
A peer support specialist is a person with "lived experience" who has been trained to support those who struggle with mental health, psychological trauma, or substance use. Their personal experience of these challenges provide peer support specialists with expertise that professional training cannot replicate. Throughout your training, you will engage in discussions and exchanges about experiences, exploring how peers manage their professional responsibilities alongside their personal experiences. Topics covered may encompass self-care, setting boundaries, maintaining work-life balance, fostering empowerment, addressing stigma, and overcoming learned helplessness.
