TOURISM/SPORTS MARKETING DIVISION - STUDENT INTERN - 4 POSITIONS AVAILABLE

$15HR - MONDAY - SUNDAY/VARIOUS HOURS (20-40HRS/WEEK) SEASONAL POSITION

START DATE: MONDAY AUGUST 24, 2026 - DECEMBER 14, 2026

LOCATIONS: LAKE MYRTLE SPORTS PARK (AUBURNDALE), WELCOME CENTER (DAVENPORT)

MAJOR FUNCTION
Provides assistance with day-to-day operations and the marketing efforts of Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

To assist in the advancement of the Tourism and Sports Marketing Plan, the Tourism and Sports Marketing Intern holds the following responsibilities:

  • Assist in the setup and operation of events recruited and hosted by Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing.
  • Assist with the development and organization of administrative documents, reports, and general office projects as needed.
  • Work closely with owners of events hosted in Polk County to assist in the onsite operation and event setup.
  • Assist in facility operations at various sports facilities throughout Polk County.
  • Assist Visit Central Florida marketing staff in gathering information and content to be used in Marketing and Social Media campaigns.
  • Work closely with various departments on projects and event preparation, including but not limited to, Sales and Recruitment, Event Logistics, Sponsorships, Digital and Social Media.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to research and prepare informational data, promotional brochures, reports and materials.
  • Ability to assist in physical setup and operations of sporting events
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, use of electronic communications, preparing presentations, internet research, and social media.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends at various facilities throughout Polk County

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field or a recent graduate from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field with in the last 24 months.

Overview

As outlined in the Polk County Charter, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) is the governing body of Polk County. Each commissioner is elected by a countywide vote.

Duties and Powers

The County Commission adopts an annual budget which includes appropriations for services provided by county government including the Sheriff, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector and Supervisor of Elections. This budget also includes appropriations in support of the Circuit and County Courts, State Attorney, Public Defender and Clerk of the Court. Some other responsibilities:

* levying taxes and fees,

* provide and maintain county buildings,

* provide fire protection and ambulance services,

* provide health and welfare programs,

* provide parks, preserves, playgrounds, libraries, museums, historical sites, recreation and cultural facilities and programs,

* prepare and enforce comprehensive plans for the development in the county,

* establish, coordinate, and enforce zoning and such business regulations as are necessary for the protection of the public,

* adopt and enforce building, housing and related technical codes and regulations,

* establish and administer programs of housing, slum clearance, community redevelopment, conservation, flood control, air pollution control,

* provide and regulate waste and sewage collection and disposal, water supply and conservation programs,

* provide and operate public transportation systems, roads, bridges and related facilities.
