2065440 SHIP GRANT - NPMC HOSPThe Healthcare Explorer position provides students and career changers with the opportunity to gain exposure to various healthcare occupations. In this role, individuals will support, observe, and assist healthcare teams in real-world environments. Under supervision, candidates will perform basic duties according to established guidelines while exploring different careers, departments, and functions within our organization.
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Interest and Curiosity in Healthcare: Clear motivation for exploring healthcare careers, as evidenced by prior experiences (e.g., coursework, volunteer work, or personal projects) and/or expressed enthusiasm during the interview or application process
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: The ability to effectively communicate with peers, patients, and staff, demonstrated through examples of past work or volunteer experiences, feedback from prior employers, or specific instances where communication skills were critical in achieving a goal
Organizational Skills: Evidence of managing multiple tasks or responsibilities, such as balancing academic coursework with extracurricular activities or maintaining a personal schedule, as described in previous roles or activities
Confidentiality and Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information respectfully, through past roles (e.g., volunteer work, internships) that required confidentiality and discretion, or a clear understanding of confidentiality principles
Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work with others, evidenced by participation in team-oriented projects, group work in school, or collaborative volunteer experiences. Ability to provide examples of teamwork challenges and how they were addressed
Initiative and Proactive Learning: Examples of independently seeking out new learning opportunities, whether through research, additional coursework, or extracurricular activities that demonstrate curiosity and self-driven growth
Comfort with Inquiry: Willingness to ask questions and seek clarification when needed, shown through past experiences where asking for guidance led to a positive outcome or learning opportunity
Attention to Detail: Demonstrated accuracy in performing tasks, such as following instructions carefully in previous roles or volunteer work, or a track record of attention to detail in any academic or extracurricular activity
Time Commitment: Availability to adhere to a specific schedule, as demonstrated by previous roles where consistency and reliability in time management were required
Required Qualifications:
16 years of age or older
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous job shadowing or internship experience in healthcare
Completion of relevant coursework (e.g., Medical Terminology, Intro to Allied Health, Human Anatomy & Physiology)
Volunteer experience in a healthcare setting
Schedule:
Full-time, day shift over the summer
Approximately 37.5 hours per week
