The Berkeley County Planning and Zoning Department is seeking undergraduate or graduate student candidates for a paid internship opportunity for the current academic year. Candidates are required to be enrolled in Urban Studies, City/Regional Planning, Historic Preservation, Public Administration, Environmental Studies, Architecture, or related degree programs.
Interns will gain experience in land use planning, the Comprehensive Planning process, ArcGIS, research, and writing, while also obtaining exposure to the structure of local government and decision-making processes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Interning with Berkeley County Government will allow students to expand their professional experience and explore career options in planning and local government. Interns are expected to be professional, punctual, and engaged in all aspects of the Planning and Zoning Department.

This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The work is regularly performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment. The number of hours worked will vary depending on the assignment. Hours will not exceed 29 hours per week. Hours are flexible and attendance at evening meetings is optional but encouraged to gain exposure.
