Job Description

This Histories and Legacies of America Slavery internship involves approximately 10 to 15 hours per week working in partnership with Historic Trappe and Ursinus’s Histories and Legacies of American Slavery grant team for the remainder of the semester. The internship is generously financed by a Histories and Legacies of American Slavery Grant funded by the Mellon Foundation and administered by the Council of Independent Colleges.

Responsibilities:

At Historic Trappe:

• processing archival and library materials
• assisting with special events and educational programs
• helping to draft social media content

At Ursinus:

• assisting Dr. Lott’s AMST-200 course with archival research at Historic Trappe
• identifying documents, images, and objects at Historic Trappe that will become part of a Digital Commons website on the grant team’s research project
• interpreting and writing text about Historic Trappe’s archival sources for a Digital Commons site on the grant team’s research project

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in a related Bachelor’s degree program ( e.g., English, History, etc.), preferably along with a related interdisciplinary minor ( e.g., African American and Africana Studies, American Studies, Digital Studies, Museum Studies, etc.) at Ursinus.
• Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and positive attitude with a strong desire to learn and contribute in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, convey information clearly, and receive feedback effectively.

Physical Requirements:

• frequent and close visual work in an archive and at a desk or computer
• frequent verbal and written communication with the Legacies Team and Historic Trappe staff in person and by phone or video conferencing.
• ability to travel between Ursinus’s campus and the Dewees Museum and Muhlenberg Speaker’s House (both in Trappe)
