Ithaca College Dining Services is a dynamic and essential part of the campus community, serving students, faculty, staff, and guests across multiple dining platforms. Our operations include two all-you-care-to-eat dining halls, three retail dining locations, five satellite cafés, campus catering, and athletic/event concessions. The Production Assistant supports food production, service, and customer experience at our retail dining locations, with a focus on speed, efficiency, food safety, and teamwork. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking, clear communication, and guest engagement are essential. You'll gain hands-on experience in food preparation, guest service, station setup, sanitation, and team operations- all while enjoying free meals and a supportive work environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Greet and serve guests with a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor
Set up food service stations with all necessary ingredients, utensils, containers, and signage
Prepare and replenish menu items during service in accordance with food safety and quality standards
Follow food handling and sanitation procedures including HACCP, knife safety, and allergy awareness
Take and record food temperatures at required intervals
Operate foodservice equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, and mixers
Break down and clean service stations after each meal period
Assist with basic cooking and cold prep under culinary supervision
Wash dishes, clean tables, sweep, mop, and maintain an overall clean and safe workspace
Assist with restocking and inventory of supplies and ingredients
Maintain knowledge of menu items, including ingredients, preparation methods, and allergens
Operate POS systems, including Grubhub tablet systems (where applicable)
Collaborate with coworkers and managers through clear, respectful communication
Support dining room appearance by cleaning high-touch points and assisting with dining area setup/teardown
Comply with assigned shift schedules, dress code, and timekeeping procedures
Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment
Production Associates work indoors and occasionally outdoors in a foodservice environment that requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, and working around heat and noise. Team members are required to wear appropriate safety gear including close toed shoes and may operate kitchen equipment.
