SFS Advisor
Job Overview
Responsible for student and parent counseling regarding costs, billing, payments, scholarships, and financial aid. Exercises discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance, such as extenuating circumstances, resolving conflicting information, and handling complaints, and related issues. The SFS Advisor reports to the Assistant Director of Operations and pays $51,000 to $56,000 annually based on experience. This position is in-person at Wheaton College (IL).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Acquires and maintains working knowledge of federal, state and college regulations as related to costs, billing, payments, scholarships, and financial aid, including attending workshops or training seminars as required. Apply regulatory requirements to the business operations of Student Financial Services.
- Provides a welcoming and professional presence when meeting with students and parents. Responds to phone calls and emails in an accurate, timely, and expert manner.
- Using organizational skills and ability to analyze complicated problems, take initiative and manage multiple tasks while working both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Responsible for an assigned section of students to counsel, evaluating application information, and responding to questions. Coordinates the financial aid award for proper packaging and disbursement of funds.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement with respect to assessing the eligibility of students for appeals.
- Responsible for alternative loan batch processing, associated accounting entries, and payment reconciliation with the general ledger. Manage ELM Select as our historical lender list.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
- Good computer aptitude
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Prior financial aid experience preferred
