Job Description

We are currently seeking passionate Student and Family Counsellors to deliver therapeutic
support to students through individual counselling and group programs.

The Role

As a Student and Family Counsellor, you will play a key role in a school’s pastoral care
program, working collaboratively with students, families, and school staff to support wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and build resilience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual and family counselling to students and their families
  • Designing and facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational group programs, as well as year
    group and assembly presentations
  • Delivering professional learning and support to school staff
  • Practicing in line with relevant professional ethics, values, and standards
  • Maintaining high clinical and administrative standards in accordance with program policies

Opportunities are available across the following locations:

Regional NSW

  • St Joseph’s Primary, Adelong – 1 day per week
  • St Mary’s Primary, Batlow – 1 day per week
  • St Patrick’s Primary, Gundagai – 1 day per week
  • St Patrick’s School, Cooma - 3.5 days per week
  • St Joseph’s Primary, Goulburn - 2 days per week
  • St Bernard's Primary, Batemans Bay - 3 days per week
  • St Mary’s School Moruya - 1.5 days per week

ACT

  • Orana Steiner School, Canberra - 4 days per week

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Qualifications in Social Work (eligible for AASW membership), or registration as a Psychologist
    with AHPRA, or a degree in Counselling with ACA or PACFA (Level 3 or 4) registration
  • Experience delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children, young people,
    and families
  • Strong understanding of issues impacting children and families, and approaches that support wellbeing and recovery
  • A demonstrated commitment to child safety and family-centred practice
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work
    effectively with schools and community partners
  • The ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations and support students with complex
    needs

You will also require:

  • Current driver’s licence
  • Valid NSW Working with Children Check and/or ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • Current National Police Check

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
