This Position will Begin Fall 2026 Semester

Occupational Summary:
The Facilities & Grounds Student Worker assists the Facilities Department with campus grounds, general maintenance support, event setup, and seasonal operational tasks to help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment.

Work Performed

  1. Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of campus sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, landscaped areas, and outdoor gathering spaces.
  2. Support Facilities staff with basic non-technical maintenance and repair tasks under supervision.
  3. Assist with furniture moving, office relocations, event setup/teardown, and room reconfigurations across campus.
  4. Assist with painting preparation, patching, hanging boards or pictures, replacing ceiling tiles, and other general facility support tasks.
  5. Help maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shops, storage areas, tools, and equipment.
  6. Assist with preventive maintenance support tasks including equipment cleaning, maintenance preparation activities, and other support functions under supervision.
  7. Assist with snow and ice removal during winter weather conditions as needed.
  8. Report maintenance, appearance, or safety concerns to Facilities staff.
  9. Operate basic hand tools and grounds equipment safely after training.
  10. Contribute to the overall success of the Facilities Department by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  1. Must be a current Newman University student enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours).
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to work 12–20 hours per week with scheduling coordinated around class availability.
  4. Reliable attendance, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
  5. Ability to follow instructions and work independently after training.
  6. Preferred but not required: experience using basic hand tools or lawn equipment.

Physical Requirements During Work Shift:

  1. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  3. Ability to walk and climb stairs frequently.
  4. Ability to carry supplies and equipment up and down stairs daily.
  5. Ability to bend, stoop or kneel repeatedly.
  6. Ability to reach overhead and maintain your balance daily.
  7. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
