Position Summary
The Student Engagement and Leadership Coordinator serves as the primary front-line resource for student engagement at the College, working directly with students to strengthen involvement, leadership development and connection to the College. The coordinator works under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Student Engagement to support student engagement opportunities that promote student involvement, leadership development, belonging, and student success. This position provides direct support, training, management of the College mascot program, and guidance to student leaders and club advisors and coordinates programs and activities that encourage student participation and leadership development. This position collaborates with departments across the College, including BEDI, to implement student engagement, belonging, mentoring, community engagement, and leadership initiatives that enhance the student experience and strengthen students’ connection to the College
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Student Clubs and Organizations
- Serve as the primary College contact and front-line resource student clubs and organizations, student leaders and club advisors.
- Lead the Club Advisory Board (CAB), including meetings, communication, training, support for student leaders and ongoing support for participating organizations.
- Provide guidance and support to student leaders and advisors related to club development, recruitment, budgeting, event planning, fundraising, policies, procedures, and organizational operations.
- Maintain and update the Club Advisor Handbook, student organization procedures, and related policies.
- Assist with club registration, compliance, risk management, and organizational processes.
- Develop strategies to strengthen student participation in clubs and organizations based on student interests.
- Track student organization participation, engagement, and program outcomes.
Belonging, Onboarding, and Community Engagement Support
- Collaborate with the Director of BEDI and Community Engagement and Belonging Coordinator to implement student facing programs and activities that strengthen belonging, connection and engagement.
- Support student onboarding and transition activities, including welcome programs, resource connections, student outreach, and other activities designed to help new students connect with the College.
- Assist the implementation of BEDI programs and events, including heritage months activities, belonging initiatives, student listening sessions, and other student-centered programming.
- Support community engagement activities by coordinating student participation, Student Ambassadors, volunteers, and student organizations at college and community events.
- Help connect students to leadership, mentoring, engagement, and community opportunities based on student interests and needs.
Mascot, and Student Engagement Programs
- Oversee the college mascot program, including scheduling appearances, supervision of mascot student employees, and coordination of mascot participation at campus and community events.
- Assist with campus engagement programming and student events designed to promote student involvement and participation in campus life.
- Support student leadership development programs, including the Student Leadership Academy and student leadership training initiatives.
Student Leadership and Engagement Support
- Implement student leadership and engagement initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Student Engagement and support student-facing initiatives led by BEDI and other College departments.
- Serve as one of the primary facilitators for the College’s Mentor Collective program, coordinating program activities, supporting mentor and mentee engagement, and collaborating with campus partners to promote student connection, persistence, and success.
- Support the College’s Student Engagement Program, including hiring, scheduling, training, supervision, and deployment of student ambassadors to support campus events, community outreach activities, student engagement and belonging initiatives.
- Support student engagement and retention initiatives that promote student involvement, leadership development, and campus connection.
- Gather student feedback through clubs, Student Ambassadors, engagement activities, and other student interactions and share emerging themes with Director of BEDI to inform student engagement and belonging efforts.
- Collaborate with campus departments to support student engagement opportunities and campus programming.
- Assist the Director of Athletics and Student Engagement with coordinating student volunteer support for the College’s commencement ceremonies, including collaborating with Honors, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), and the Student Leadership Academy (SLA) to recruit, organize, and train student volunteers and volunteer ushers.
- Serve as one of the primary facilitators for the Mentor Collective program, supporting program coordination, student engagement, and mentoring initiatives that promote student connection and success.
Budget, Operations, and Assessment
- Manage student club and organization fundraising accounts
- Manage budgets and expenditures related to student clubs and organizations, and student engagement programs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of student engagement programs by tracking participation, engagement data, co-curricular assessment, and student learning outcomes; prepare reports and recommend improvements to enhance participation, program effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
- Assist with program assessment, student learning outcomes, and engagement tracking.
- Maintain records and documentation related to student clubs and organizations, intramurals, and student engagement programs.
Supervision
- Supervise student employees related to mascot programs, student engagement programs and Food Pantry.
- Assist with training and support for student organization leaders and student employees
Other Duties as Assigned
- Assist with maintaining College policies, procedures, and Student Handbook sections related to student clubs and organizations and serve on college committees as assigned.
Complete an on-line application and attach a cover letter with position title, resume and copies of transcripts (official transcripts required upon hire) and/or certifications and licenses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Recreation, Sports Management, Education, Leadership, or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in student activities, campus life, student engagement, recreation/intramurals, or student affairs in a college or university setting.
- Experience working with student clubs and organizations, student leadership programs, or campus engagement initiatives.
- Experience supervising student employees or student leaders.
- Strong organizational, communication, and event planning skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement, leadership development, and student success.
