Title: Makerspace Project Assistant
Makerspace Project Assistants (PAs) provides customer service, operations support, and marketing for the Makerspace, which is under the department of Student Engagement & Activities (SEA). Project Assistants work in a team and perform their duties both individually and collaboratively. Under the supervision of SEA professional staff, the Project Assistants support everyday Makerspace operations, which involves staffing the front desk, answering questions, cleaning and maintaining the space, performing maintenance on the machines, as well as supporting student organizations and clubs with event supplies, information, and poster printing. PAs also assist with overseeing the SEA department inventory, collecting and entering data, leading marketing and tabling efforts, maintaining social media and website, doing occasional presentations about getting involved on campus, and performing general office work.
Project Assistants gain valuable job skills, including project management, teamwork, web editing, social media management, marketing, budgeting, customer service, space operations management, time management, and more.
Project Assistants who apply for a second or third year of employment may gain additional marketable skills, including leadership, meeting facilitation, office management, and more.
Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) - Duties & Responsibilities:

Time Commitments:
12.5 - 15 hours/week during fall quarter
12.5- 15 hours/week during winter quarter
10-19.5 hours/week during spring quarter
Hours must be regularly scheduled during business hours of 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Must be available to attend weekly team meetings, 1-2 hours per week, times TBD.
Work conditions
Most work is in-person, with 2 hours per week of optional remote administrative work with prior approval
Virtual work requires use of Zoom, Teams, and other platforms (training provided)
Event set up and take down may require lifting boxes and equipment up to 20 lbs
Work is completed in a shared, open-office workspace with minimal privacy
PAs are provided with an assigned desk and desktop computer
Pay Rate:
$21.30 per hour
Pay rate anticipated to increase January 1st, 2027 by TBD amount

September 9th 2026 - June 30th, 2027

Qualifications:
In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must be:

A matriculated University of Washington Bothell student
Able to commit for the entire academic year, incl. fall, winter, and spring quarters
Enrolled in at least 6 credits as an undergraduate student or at least 5 credits as a graduate student each quarter of employment
Able to work in person (percentage of in-person work depends on position)
Able to participate in quarterly trainings - dates listed below (subject to change):
Fall: September 9th-October 7th 2026 (this includes residential move in assistance and welcome events)
Winter: Friday, January 8, 2027
Spring: April 2, 2027
Additional trainings, as determined by supervisor
In good standing with UWB. Good standing is defined as:
Must have a 2.5 cumulative and quarterly GPA
Must be in good judicial standing (student conduct)
Required Qualifications:
Basic working knowledge of event, workshop, and/or meeting planning
Strong interest in contributing to the mission of SEA: offering meaningful engagement to students and advocating for social justice
Strong interest in working in a diverse team, navigating different viewpoints, and making balanced group decisions
Experience in leading a team of volunteers or peer student leaders on large projects
Strong interest in improving campus and the UWB community for students
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, prioritize effectively, follow through on commitments, and meet deadlines
Ability to take initiative, proactively identify problems and creative solutions, and make informed decisions
Computer skills: ability to use email, Zoom, Canvas, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
Presentation skills: able to convey information in a clear, concise, and compelling way
Research skills: able to independently find relevant, accurate information online and in person
Written communication skills: able to convey information in a focused, coherent, and accurate way
Collaboration experience (class project, work experience, personal)
Demonstrated ability to hear and consider different perspectives
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with inventory and organizing supplies
Experience successfully planning and executing events
Intermediate presentation skills
Graphic design skills
Ability to learn new technology quickly
Familiar with a variety of tools and workshop equipment; experienced as a user of a fabrication or machine shop
Interest in any kind of design. Artistic skills are a plus
Some IT/web skills, marketing/outreach, customer service/retail experience
Experience working with hands-on arts and crafts
Involved in other student organizations
Experience with one or more of the following are a plus:
Sewing / embroidery
Cricut
Electronics / embedded design
Woodshop environments
