The Pharmacy Intern will perform most of the duties of a pharmacist under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to gain the practical experience of day to day responsibilities. You will practice skills in dispensing, prescription order processing, verbal communication and problem solving. The intern will receive training in the Outpatient Pharmacy, MTM, and Meds to Beds along with opportunities to engage in projects and presentations.

  • Provides proper paperwork necessary to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and accreditation bodies.

  • Professional communicates with payers and PBMs.

  • Learns to initiate benefit investigations and prior authorizations in a timely manner.

  • Gathers accurate information from the medical record for processing prior authorizations under the supervision of a pharmacist.

  • Checks the status of prior authorizations in a timely manner.

  • Documents all work in accordance with company policies/procedures and accreditation standards and within the parameters of state and federal regulations.

  • Provides continuous financial assistant support to all patients through manufacturer assistance or grants.

  • Informs patients of prescription status throughout the benefit investigation, prior authorization, financial assistance and ongoing care process.

  • Refers all clinical issues to the pharmacist, always working within the pharmacy intern scope of practice.

  • Provides monthly outreach to patients due for refills per established policies and procedures to determine the patient’s general health status, medication compliance and drug supply as applicable.

  • Refers any clinical issues to the pharmacist.

  • Learns knowledge of proper shipping procedures including cold chain. Communicates with other specialty pharmacies to ensure UAMS patients are transitioned properly and are being properly served.

  • Screens all patients for financial assistance offering assistance in the form or manufacturer co-pay cards, grants or manufacturer free drug.

  • Prioritizes work appropriately.

  • Accepts responsibility for work.

  • Knows when to ask for help to ensure patient safety and accreditation compliance.

  • Good work awareness, assist others when work is complete.

  • Assists with answering the telephone regularly.

  • Dependable, two or less absence occurrences per year.

  • Rarely tardy, less than five per year.

  • Understands how to operate all equipment (Parata Max, Kirby Lester counter, load printers, fax machines).

  • Flexible, can work in multiple areas.

  • Flexible with work schedule.

  • Stays within allotted break/lunch times, returns back to work early when needed.

  • Keeps visiting and other non-work activities to a minimum while there is work to do.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
