About Ithaca College Dining Services

Ithaca College Dining Services is a dynamic and essential part of the campus community, serving students, faculty, staff, and guests across multiple dining platforms. Our operations include two all-you-care-to-eat dining halls, three retail dining locations, five satellite cafés, campus catering, and athletic/event concessions. Our team is committed to delivering exceptional food, warm hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

The Concessions Cashier supports athletic and campus event concessions by providing friendly guest service, accurately processing transactions, and assisting with the setup and operation of concession stands. This role involves taking orders, tending orders, operating a card reader and pre-programmed point-of-sale menu, keeping the concession area clean and organized, and following direction from the shift supervisor. Concessions Cashiers work in an event-based environment where communication, reliability, teamwork, and a positive attitude are essential. No prior concessions or food service experience is required — full on-the-job training is provided.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Greet and serve guests with a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor
  • Take guest orders accurately and provide attentive customer service
  • Operate the point-of-sale system and card reader to process transactions accurately
  • Tend guest orders and provide food and beverage items as directed
  • Follow all food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of concession menu items and available products
  • Keep concession areas stocked, clean, organized, and presentable throughout service
  • Assist with setting up the concession stand before events and breaking down the area after events
  • Follow the direction of the shift supervisor and communicate clearly with team members
  • Arrive on time for accepted shifts and follow required uniform and safety expectations
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitizing concession areas and equipment as needed
  • Support smooth service during busy event periods by multitasking and working efficiently
  • Communicate respectfully with guests, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment

Concessions Cashiers work in an event-based food service environment that requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift. There are no minimum requirements for the number of shifts, hours, or time commitment. Students may view upcoming events on the IC Concessions Team page and pick up available shifts that fit their availability. Work schedules are flexible and based on upcoming athletic and campus events. Work may involve operating concession equipment, handling food and beverages, and working around heat, noise, and busy guest traffic. Team members are expected to follow required uniform, food safety, and sanitation policies and complete periodic safety trainings as required.
