Job Title: Student Composer / Sound Designer for PRJ-3051 (Mathues, Schwedler), S26
Reports to Lawrence Schwedler
Job Purpose: Assist Junior film team with music and sound. The goal is to create a rough pass on the working animatic that defines overall pacing and style. Any sound effects needed for story clarity are present in a rough form. (Final music and sound will be completed in F26). TA will work with the team in a collaborative, iterative, process. Prof. Schwedler has oversight on quality and final deliveries.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise film team regarding music and sound choices
- Implement feedback from the team in a timely manner and offer solutions
- Be willing to work in an iterative process
- Support the tone and mood of the film
- Add clarity to important story moments with key sound effects
- Attend team meetings to stay current with any changes in the film
- Do at least 2 iterations on music/sound to allow time for notes from team and faculty
- Work closely with Prof. Schwedler to insure proper outcomes
- Accountable for tracking and reporting the amount of time worked
Qualifications/Competencies
- Comfortable with multiple aspects of the music/sound pipeline
- Able to give critique in a professional manner
- Strong communicator
- Reliable, punctual, and invested in the success of their fellow students
- Be able to work independently
Working Conditions:
- Ideally be able to attend a few class meetings to discuss music plan and present progress to faculty. (depending on student availability)
- Class times: Tuesday – 2 - 4:20 p.m. and Thursday – 10 a.m. - 1:50 p.m.
- Be able to meet with team and Prof. Schwedler in off-hours – scheduling these ahead of time and committing to regular check-ins
Expected dates of employment: February 9 – April 25, 2026
Expected number of hours per week: 3 - 6

Wage Range:
$17.13 - $18.25 per hour, depending on number of terms worked at DigiPen

DigiPen Student Employee Academic Requirements:
- Are currently a Matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology
- Good Academic Standing – not on Academic Warning as defined in DigiPen Course Catalog
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Have taken and passed MUS-251 course (or equivalent) with a B or better grade or suitable prior experience
Requirement Exceptions:
It is possible to still be selected for a position with DigiPen if you do not meet the requirements above, so don't let that dissuade you from applying!
Once you have applied for – and the supervisor decides to offer you – a position, we will contact the necessary managers (Supervisor, Department Chair, and/or the Dean of Faculty) to complete and sign off on an Academic Waiver form, depending on which requirements need to be waived.
