Job Description

The Audio Assistant is responsible for assisting with the smooth functioning of audio operations at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. This includes setting up and running any and all audio needs for rehearsals and live productions, assisting with the day-of audio for all concerts, lectures, and other events at the Maltz Performing Arts Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist in implementing stage set up and tear down of all audio systems, both live in house amplification and live mixing for streaming and recording. Works closely with the MPAC Production Team to ensure the timely delivery of requisite facilities for multiple back-to-back events. Is able to identify and pursue the most efficient use of resources. Is able to clearly and articulately explain complicated tasks and sequences of events. Can communicate client needs to requisite parties, and ensures functionality of all systems. Can quickly understand and address problems that could hinder operations. (25%)

  2. Acts as the audio assistant for all events. Liaises with the MPAC Production Team to ensure that all technical and performance elements related to audio are appropriate. Controls audio and performs other duties as assigned by the MPAC Production Team. (40%)

  3. Maintain accurate inventory and maintenance of all equipment for audio. Responsible for pulling, setting, usage, and storage of all audio equipment. Maintains signal infrastructure for audio and video systems and can initiate troubleshooting and repairs under the direction of MPAC Production Team (20%)

  4. Grows under the direction of the MPAC Production Team to expand audio knowledge and ability. Is an active participant in all audio training and communicates with the MPAC Production Team regarding personal interest and development relating to audio abilities. (25%)

Pay rate- $15 to $18/hr depending on experience, yearly performance evaluations come with appropriate raises

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 2 year related experience in audio at a performing arts space required. Experience in a University setting preferred.

Education: High school education required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  1. Progressively increasing levels of training and ability regarding the field of audio engineering.

  2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  3. Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.

  4. Ability to track and resolve problems.

  5. Ability to maintain a harmonious and productive working relationship with co-workers, faculty, and staff in other administrative units of the university.

  6. Ability to work proactively and cooperatively with staff and with others in the University.

  7. Knowledge of technical theater operations, various types of stage plots.

  8. Knowledge of Protools software, Avid, Rednet Hardware, digital audio workstation workflow.

  9. Knowledge of data networking, analog & digital signal flow.

  10. Experience with audio networking systems, digital mixing consoles, recording equipment, multi-track audio recording systems, and broadcasting setups.

  11. Familiarity with a wide range of event types: orchestral, choral, theatrical, lecture, banquet, ceremony, etc.

  12. Ability to assimilate and communicate information clearly and accurately.

  13. Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.

  14. Ability to meet consistent attendance.
