The New School offered the first academic creative writing workshop in 1927 and pioneered a new philosophy of education. Today, we continue to celebrate and cultivate daring and diverse new voices through a highly regarded MFA program led by an internationally renowned faculty of authors. Students of the Creative Writing MFA The New School choose from concentrations in Arts Writing, Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, or Writing for Children and Young Adults, and receive personalized faculty mentorship and faculty and peer critiques. Innovative courses in publishing and multimedia storytelling engage students in the development of literature. This position serves as the Communications & Engagement Assistant for the Creative Writing Program and will report to Associate Director Lori Lynn Turner.

CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • For each Creative Writing Reading Series event create an event page through Splash to post on the university events calendar, manage event registration and communication with attendees

  • Plan, schedule, develop and publish social media content spotlighting program events and news as a key member of the Creative Writing social media team

  • Create visual and written content for the Creative Writing blog including alumni

  • spotlights, community profiles, significant news or program activities

  • Provide practical support for program initiatives and events as needed, including the monthly tea.

  • Update and maintain the online alumni and faculty bookshelf

  • Assist with communications, marketing, and program projects as needed


The position requires someone who is flexible, a capable multi-tasker, organized, precise, detail oriented, and has strong interpersonal communication skills.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in the MFA Program

  • Experience working with content and design platforms

  • Experience creating engaging social media content for organizations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Interest in supporting and elevating the Creative Writing student and alumni community

WORK MODE
This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. #LI-DNI

Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.


Hourly Rate $18
