Job Description

The Student Worker for Education & Museum Programs supports the Education Department and the National Churchill Museum by developing engaging educational activities for K–12 students, assisting with school visits, and serving as a museum tour guide. This position provides hands-on experience in museum education, curriculum development, public speaking, and educational programming while helping create meaningful learning experiences for visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Education Department faculty and the Museum Director to develop engaging, age-appropriate educational activities for K–12 students.
  • Design interactive learning experiences that connect museum exhibits to Missouri Learning Standards and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Assist in planning and implementing educational programs for school groups and community visitors.
  • Lead guided tours of the National Churchill Museum for K–12 students, college groups, and community visitors.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning stations, educational games, and inquiry-based activities that encourage student engagement.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain instructional materials and activity supplies.
  • Assist with special events hosted by the Museum and Education Department.
  • Help evaluate educational activities by gathering participant feedback and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Support outreach efforts by assisting with educational resources, promotional materials, and program preparation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Museum Director or Education Department faculty.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Strong interest in education, history, museums, public history, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Comfortable presenting information to groups of children, educators, and adult visitors.
  • Creative, organized, and dependable.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Professional demeanor with a positive and welcoming attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent Westminster College and the National Churchill Museum professionally

Preference may be given to students who:

  • Education majors or minors.
  • Have experience working with children or youth.
  • Have experience in tutoring, camp counseling, mentoring, or classroom settings.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and customer relationship skills.
  • Have an interest in history, museum studies, or public education.

Students serving in this role will have the opportunity to develop:
