Job Description

In the » High performance cutting« department, we develop technologies aimed at improving machining processes. We utilize numerical simulation approaches to investigate machining processes.

As a student assistant, you will support our team in the development and validation of simulation methods for predicting residual-stress-induced part distortion in aero-engine components. You will also assist with experiments in our state-of-the-art machining facilities.

The position involves 12 - 17 hours per week on-site at our institute in Aachen.

Be part of change

  • Develop simulation software based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Cell Method (FCM)
  • Validate the implemented methods using commercial FEM software and experimental measurements.
  • Support the design of experiments and the execution of measurement campaigns

What you contribute

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, physics or a comparable subject.
  • Experience with the application or development of the Finite Element Method is advantageous.
  • Experience in object-oriented programming using Python or C++ is required.
  • A high degree of independence and motivation.
  • Good language skills in English are required. German language skills are advantageous.
