Job Description

Applicants MUST be a current student at DigiPen Institute of Technology to qualify for this position.

  • Student Employment at DigiPen is open to all currently matriculated students if they meet the qualifications for the job.
  • Students may not work during any time when they have a class scheduled, a class is canceled, or a class ends early
  • Student workers must reside within the State of Washington. Remote work outside of Washington will not be permitted.

This position is ONLY open to current students, eligible for Federal Work Study, with an accepted FWS award.

The Career & Alumni Relations Assistant (CARA) is a student representative for DigiPen’s Office of Career and Alumni Relations, reporting to the Assistant Director of Career and Alumni Relations. This role is integral to supporting the team’s professional development initiatives for students and partnerships with employer guests. Thorough training will be provided.

This position will begin in Fall 2026 and conclude in Spring 2027. Work schedules will be modified each semester to accommodate the CARA’s class schedule. Reapplication may be considered at the conclusion of this term.

Scope of Role

  • Employer Event Marketing & Support: 60%
  • Handshake Maintenance: 10%
  • Data Collection/Reporting: 10%
  • Misc. Departmental Assistance: 20%

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support Career and Alumni Relations staff with events such as Company Days, job fairs, and networking mixers (including but not limited to: Company Day note taking, employer research, promotional materials)
  • Market Career and Alumni Relations events by creating and placing advertisements around campus, emails, etc.
  • Foster a welcoming environment in the Office of Career and Alumni Relations by providing customer service to visitors with drop-in questions or looking for other campus departments such as Student Success, etc.
  • Assist with data and reporting projects such as post-graduate employment milestones or from the Handshake platform
  • Collaborate with the Career and Alumni Relations staff members for projects on an as-needed basis
  • Participate in required training, professional development, and supervisor meetings
  • Meet with supervisor weekly for progress check-ins and evaluation of performance
  • Accountable for tracking and reporting the amount of time worked

Qualifications

In order to apply, candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a familiarity with the DigiPen campus, degree programs, culture, and student perspectives
  • Have strong communication skills in both a 1:1 and public setting
  • Have a professional demeanor and eagerness to connect with peers and faculty on campus
  • Must be a self-starter and able to operate with minimal supervision
  • Must not be afraid to ask questions to ensure understanding of scope of work
  • Be able to work 6 to 10 hours per week
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study, with an accepted FWS award

Students will be selected through review of their submissions and an interview process.

Expected dates of employment: August 31, 2026 – April 23, 2027

Expected number of hours per week: 6 - 10

Wage Range:

Wage ranges are based on Washington State’s minimum wage requirements; actual rate is determined by the number of terms worked for DigiPen

  • 1st Term worked: $17.13 per hour
  • 2nd & 3rd Terms worked: $17.75 per hour
  • 4th or more Terms worked: $18.25 per hour

Conduct Expectations

As a student employee, you are upheld to the Student Code of Conduct standards listed in the Student Handbook. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Student Affairs. As a student employee, you are also a “Responsible Employee” meaning you are obligated to report any actual or potential Title IX incidents to your supervisor. Further training will be provided on these expectations. Performance of work will be evaluated at the conclusion of each semester. If needed, evaluation will begin with a performance improvement strategy and regular follow up on those determined action items.

Working Conditions:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and fine finger dexterity. May need to lift up to 25 lbs. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.

DigiPen Student Employee Academic Requirements:

  • Are currently a Matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology
  • Good Academic Standing – not on Academic Warning as defined in DigiPen Course Catalog
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Requirement Exceptions:

It is possible to still be selected for a position with DigiPen if you do not meet the requirements above, so don't let that dissuade you from applying!

Once you have applied for – and the supervisor decides to offer you – a position, we will contact the necessary managers (Supervisor, Department Chair, and/or the Dean of Faculty) to complete and sign off on an Academic Waiver form, depending on which requirements need to be waived. Once the Waiver is returned to us, we'll continue you through the hiring process.
