Job Description

The AI Strategist serves as a peer-leader and departmental resource for the ethical and effective integration of Generative AI (GenAI) at Butler University. This role focuses on the "human side" of AI: teaching others how to use it, evaluating the pros and cons of new tools, and helping faculty and students navigate the shifting landscape of academic integrity and digital productivity.

Leadership Responsibilities:

● Mentoring other DXA Students specifically on AI literacy, ethics and prompt engineering standards.

● Supporting the development and maintenance of the University’s AI Communication Hub, leading the student resources section.

● Working with full-time staff to develop university-wide guidelines for AI use in the classroom.

● Completing and then helping facilitate insights from Auburn University’s "Teaching with AI" course.

Project Responsibilities:

● Assisting the Faculty AI Cohort through 1-on-1 support, virtual training, and face-to-face workshops.

● Designing and leading 1–2 "AI for Students" events per semester (e.g., workshops on ethical AI use, helping bring in AI-related speakers/vendors for events, or "Prompt-a-thons").

● Investigating and testing new AI tools to evaluate their utility, bias, and accessibility for the Butler community, with a focus on student usage.

● Writing "Pros & Cons" content for different AI rolls and applications, "How-to" guides, and newsletter articles focused on AI literacy.

● Helping faculty "AI-proof" or "AI-integrate" assignments to align with modern academic standards.

● Traditional DXA Duties: Supporting standard educational technology (Canvas, Zoom, Panopto) as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Sophomore standing or higher ● Preferred majors in Computer Science, Education, Data Analytics, or Communication.

● Familiarity with LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and an interest in the ethics of Generative AI.

● Ability to multitask and meet deadlines

● Effective communication and technical problem-solving skills

● Ability to work independently and in a team setting

● Comfort speaking in front of groups and explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

● Strong leadership and organizational skills

● Willingness to learn new technologies and stay up to date on industry trends

About the Digital Transformation Ambassador (DXA) Program:

Digital Transformation Ambassadors (DXA) is a student employment program within the Online Education and Educational Technology office (OEET). DXA Students are broadly trained across a spectrum of digital tools and strategies. This broad training equips students with a diverse skill set that will benefit them in countless ways as they embark on their future careers.

Our DXA students answer faculty technology questions, lead classroom instruction sessions, remediate inaccessible course materials, assist with video production, and more.

Hours:

The minimum hours per week for this position is 10 hours.

Compensation:

$14 an hour
