
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Student Affairs Assistant will work as part of a high-impact student cohort supporting key leadership initiatives, event logistics, research projects, and administrative operations for the Dean of Students Office. The Student Affairs Assistant will have opportunities to collaborate with professional staff and fellow student employees, engage directly with the New School community, and contribute to programs and resources that promote a welcoming, inclusive, and connected campus experience. This role is ideal for a student interested in higher education, student affairs, and community engagement and is eager to develop professional skills while making a meaningful contribution to the student experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of monthly Dean of Students Office Hours and divisional student engagement events.
Provide logistical and administrative support for the Faculty in Residence (FIR) program and related initiatives.
Assist with collecting data on various student affairs topics.
Collaborate within a four-person student cohort on short- and long-term special projects assigned by the Dean of Students Office.
Provide occasional reception coverage, front-desk customer service, and visitor greeting during staff lunch breaks, illness, or high-volume periods.
Staff events, team meetings, and office hours in person as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This Position requires a Federal Work-Study Award
Proficiency in Canva, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office applications.
Can work with The New School’s branding and style guides to create a suite of coherent collateral across Student Success
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in event coordination, student leadership, customer service, or administrative office support.
Familiarity with research methods and basic project management toolsets.
Demonstrated commitment to community building, inclusivity, and student engagement.
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-DNI
HOURLY RATE: $18-$19/ hr
