The Student Accessibility Specialist supports the Office of Student Accessibility by providing direct services to students with disabilities and assisting with student success and retention initiatives. This position works with students, faculty, and staff to ensure equal access to educational opportunities, promote student success, and support compliance with disability-related laws and regulations.

This is a part-time wage position, limited to 1500 hours within a 12-month period, with no benefits. There is potential eligibility for educational assistance for BRCC classes and job-related training and/or certifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake meetings with students seeking accommodations.
  • Review disability documentation and determine reasonable accommodations in accordance with ADA, Section 504, and institutional policies.
  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain accommodation letters and related documentation.
  • Assist students with accommodation implementation, self-advocacy, and access to campus resources.
  • Coordinate accommodations including testing arrangements, assistive technology, accessible materials, captioning, interpreter services, and note-taking support.
  • Respond to student, faculty, and staff inquiries regarding accommodations and accessibility services.
  • Provide student success coaching related to organization, time management, study skills, and academic success.
  • Conduct outreach to students identified through retention and early alert initiatives.
  • Assist students in connecting with campus and community resources.
  • Maintain confidential student records and documentation in accordance with FERPA and applicable laws.
  • Assist with workshops, outreach activities, reporting, and special projects.
  • Collaborate and provide support within the Student Success Center as needed.
  • Serve as a backup for the Student Accessibility Coordinator as needed.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Experience providing direct assistance, advising, customer service, case management, coaching, or support services to students, clients, customers, or members of the public.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to use various computer programs and applications, including Microsoft Office and Google, as well as the ability to learn new ones.
  • Commitment to caring and inclusion

Additional Considerations
  • Experience in higher education, disability services, advising, counseling, education, social services, rehabilitation services, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 504, FERPA, and accessibility practices in higher education.
  • Experience providing coaching, mentoring, advising, case management, or student support services.
  • Experience working with assistive technology and accessibility tools.
