The Structures Superintendent is responsible for the on-site coordination, supervision, and execution of all structural scopes of work—including foundations, concrete, formwork, reinforcing steel, structural steel, precast, and bridge/heavy civil structures. This role ensures that all structural work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract documents, engineering specifications, and applicable codes. The Structures Superintendent serves as a key field leader, directing self-perform crews and subcontractors while partnering closely with project management to drive successful project delivery. This position is classified as “safety-sensitive.”

Essential Functions

Field Supervision & Execution

  • Direct and oversee daily structural field operations, including self-perform crews and structural subcontractors.
  • Coordinate the sequencing and installation of structural systems (excavation support, foundations, formwork, rebar, cast-in-place concrete, structural steel, and precast) with other trades to maintain workflow and schedule.
  • Interpret and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, submittals, and approved shop drawings.
  • Oversee concrete placement operations, including formwork inspection, rebar verification, pour planning, finishing, and curing.
  • Manage material deliveries, staging, crane/rigging plans, and equipment logistics to support uninterrupted production.

Safety & Quality

  • Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Enforce critical structural safety protocols, including fall protection, excavation/trenching, shoring, rigging, and concrete formwork/reshoring requirements.
  • Conduct daily huddles, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) for structural activities.
  • Perform quality control inspections, coordinate with third-party testing/inspection agencies, verify installations meet code and contract requirements, and manage punch-list resolution.

Scheduling & Planning

  • Develop and maintain short-interval (look-ahead) schedules for structural scopes in coordination with the project schedule.
  • Identify constraints, resource needs, and potential delays; proactively communicate solutions to the project team.
  • Track production rates and labor productivity against budget and schedule.

Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager, Superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve field conflicts and RFIs.
  • Participate in coordination and BIM/clash-detection meetings to prevent installation conflicts.
  • Document daily field activities, manpower, equipment usage, and progress through daily reports.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop field crews, foremen, and apprentices.
  • Manage crew assignments, workforce planning, and performance in the field.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and respectful work environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade certification or associate/bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering preferred.
  • Seven or more years of structural/concrete construction experience, with at least three years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Proven experience across structural disciplines (cast-in-place concrete, formwork systems, reinforcing steel, structural steel erection, and/or bridge/heavy civil structures).
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, concrete/steel construction methods, formwork engineering, and applicable structural codes (e.g., ACI, AISC).
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and field/project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

Working Conditions

  • Location – This project is located in Farmington, New Mexico. Subsequent projects will be nationally based.
  • Travel – This role will be expected to travel to project locations and regional offices.
  • Office environment – extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
  • Construction site environment – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels.
