About the Role and Team

As a Structural Analysis Intern within DNV Maritime Advisory at the DNV Shanghai office, you will support technical engineering projects for maritime and offshore structures under the mentorship of senior structural engineers. You will participate in end-to-end structural assessment tasks, applying finite element methods and engineering principles to solve practical structural integrity and dynamic performance challenges.

Key Technical Responsibilities

  • Develop finite element (FE) models of ship hulls, offshore structures, and structural components based on structural drawings and design specifications.
  • Perform fundamental structural integrity analyses including yield strength assessment, buckling analysis, and fatigue evaluation in accordance with relevant rules.
  • Conduct structural vibration analysis, e.g. natural frequency analysis and forced vibration analysis.
  • Assist in model validation, result post-processing, and technical documentation of analysis outcomes.
  • Direct, hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art maritime industry projects and technical advisory engagements covering structural integrity, rule compliance, and advanced engineering assessments.

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Familiar with ship structure drawings.
  • Able to use at least one finite element software, e.g. Patran/Ansys/Abaqus/GeniE etc.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
