The Bruce McCandless Veterans Community Living Centers at Florence offers holistic skilled nursing care for veterans, surviving spouses, and Gold Star parents, who need short-term rehabilitation, respite or long-term care. The facility focuses on providing individualized, respectful care in a safe and comfortable environment. The VCLCs identifies and addresses residents’ diverse needs from admissions, transfers and discharges, including social, emotional, psychological, and medical assistance. It advocates for residents, removes barriers, coordinates services, and addresses concerns.

Examples of duties



The Structural Trades I position provides limited support with groundskeeping, building maintenance and routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, systems, appliances, buildings and grounds. This position operates within standard guidelines and alternatives. Some projects are limited and require prior approvals for completion.


Additionally, as a Structural Trades I, you can expect to:

  • Responsible for completing assigned work orders(non-complex) related to routine and preventative maintenance of all building equipment including but not limited to electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems as well as appliances, climate control systems, recirculating hot water system, fire alarm system, nurse call system, electric beds, wheelchairs, assistive devices in order to maintain safe, optimum working order & appearance. Assist the supervisor to conduct timely, required inspections on equipment to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards
  • Perform quality, multi-trade non-complex (electrical, plumbing, painting, drywalling, texture, tile installation etc.) related repairs, minor construction and remodeling projects,, routine and preventative maintenance on buildings and structures with a detailed explanation from the supervisor of how the task is to be completed and it is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion. Keeping the same in safety, optimum working order & appearance. Responsible for identifying, ordering and acquisition of associated parts and material needed to complete the work orders, with supervisors approval. Assist the supervisor to conduct timely, required inspections on building structures to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards
  • Responsible for daily groundskeeping including but not limited to, mowing, trimming, fertilization, spraying, pruning, weeding, raking, and irrigation for multiple types of plants, trees, grounds-cover and foliage on approximately 4 of the 61 acres. Maintains exterior fencing, sidewalks, patios, gazebos and parking lots daily to ensure they are clean of debris and/or trash. Maintains scheduled and preventative maintenance on all equipment through Maximo or like system. Completes assigned work orders related to grounds, reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor. Responsible for maintaining facility policies and life safety codes in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs standards
  • Provide orientation and lead work to community service, volunteers and/or temporary staff. Hang pictures, install televisions, move furniture,Assist internal and external Customers, attend/participate in facility functions, meetings & training. Incorporate the “Eden Principals” into duties and assignments. Responsible for set-up and cleanup of the work-site including inspection of equipment/tools prior to and upon completion of work. Minor maintenance and repair to State Vehicles and its associated equipment. Driving State vehicles for moves, acquiring material, fueling vehicles, delivery/recovery of vehicles to repair facilities, etc
  • Perform other duties as assigned



Qualifications


Experience Only:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

OR

Education and Experience:

  • A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years.

  • Current/Valid and non-restricted CO Driver’s
  • Shift Work – Explain: Must be able to work varied shifts as needed to ensure coverage as needed

  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Handling of various chemicals such as fertilizers, cleaning agents, solvents, etc

  • Shift Work: Days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
