Structural Steel QC Inspector

Location: Richmond, VA

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Shift: 1st Shift

Pay: Starting at $31/hour, higher depending on experience

Position Summary

We are looking for a Structural Steel QC Inspector to oversee quality throughout the fabrication process. This position performs dimensional, material, in-process, and final inspections while working with production teams to address quality concerns and maintain fabrication standards.

Experienced senior structural steel fitters or fabricators with strong quality knowledge may also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspect fabricated structural steel throughout daily production.
• Verify materials, dimensions, layout, and part placement against shop drawings and specifications.
• Conduct both in-process and final quality inspections.
• Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work in accordance with AWS D1.1/D1.5 requirements.
• Work directly with fabrication personnel to identify and correct quality issues.
• Support quality-control processes and continuous improvement efforts.
• Assist with preparation for and participation in annual AISC quality-control audits.
• Help maintain consistent quality standards throughout fabrication.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of structural steel layout and fabrication experience.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and quality standards.
• Understanding of welding and inspection requirements.
• AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 welding certification preferred.
• Senior-level structural steel fitter/fabricator experience may be considered in place of direct QC experience.
