Job Description

The Structural Fitter Supervisor oversees the daily activities of structural fitting teams within a fabrication environment. The role coordinates workforce, materials, tools, equipment, and work priorities while monitoring safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance. The position applies technical knowledge of structural fabrication and fitting to resolve work-related issues, maintain dimensional accuracy and material traceability, and support the timely completion of assigned activities.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure team members submit accurate daily time entries in the MyTime system, and review and approve time entries in accordance with established approval workflows.
  • Supervise daily structural fitting and fabrication activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, schedules, and quality requirements.
  • Assign work to team members and clearly communicate scope, priorities, productivity targets, quality expectations, and completion requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance on structural fabrication, component preparation, assembly, alignment, fit-up, and dimensional control.
  • Review fabrication drawings, specifications, material requirements, and work instructions before commencing assigned activities.
  • Coordinate the availability and effective use of labor, materials, tools, and equipment to support efficient work execution.
  • Monitor work progress, productivity, workmanship, and schedule performance, and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Verify the dimensions, alignment, orientation, and fit-up of structural components against applicable technical requirements.
  • Ensure materials remain properly identified, segregated, protected, and traceable throughout fabrication activities.
  • Conduct routine worksite inspections to verify compliance with safety, quality, housekeeping, and operational requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical, material, equipment, and workforce issues that may affect safety, quality, productivity, or schedule performance.
  • Coordinate with engineering, quality, project management, and other disciplines to resolve technical issues and support integrated work execution.
  • Communicate work status, constraints, risks, and resource requirements to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ensure team members use approved tools, equipment, lifting devices, and personal protective equipment correctly and safely.
  • Verify that team members possess the required training, qualifications, and competencies for assigned activities.
  • Coach and develop team members to improve technical capability, safety awareness, quality performance, and productivity.
  • Promote compliance with applicable company policies, industry standards, safety requirements, quality procedures, and the Code of Business Conduct.
  • Participate in work planning, coordination meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and quality reviews.
  • Maintain accurate records of workforce allocation, completed work, productivity, inspections, material usage, and identified issues.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve fabrication methods, workflow, resource utilization, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that supports accountability and effective teamwork.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant technical and supervisory experience, is required.
  • Relevant technical, vocational, or trade qualification in structural fitting, fabrication, construction, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in structural fitting, fabrication, or related construction activities is required.
  • Previous experience supervising structural fitting or fabrication teams is required.
  • Strong knowledge of structural fabrication, component preparation, assembly, alignment, fit-up, and dimensional control is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, technical specifications, material requirements, work instructions, and schedules is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, quality requirements, and safe work practices is required.
  • Experience coordinating workforce, materials, tools, equipment, and work priorities in a fabrication environment is required.
  • Ability to identify technical and operational issues, evaluate available information, and implement practical solutions is required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, coordination, and decision-making skills are required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, project management, clients, and other discipline stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to monitor safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance while managing changing operational priorities is required.
  • Relevant competency certifications for structural fitting, rigging, lifting, or equipment operation are preferred, where applicable.
