Assist the engineering department in ensuring the sound engineering design of products through all stages of development.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Design steel joists, joist girders and steel decking according to Steel Joist Institute and Steel Deck Institute standards.
  • Roof/floor designs for projects ranging from retail buildings, schools, warehouses, etc.
  • Design structural steel and connections to applicable codes and standards
  • Provide engineering direction to detailing, design, sales and production departments
  • Interpret contract documents and communicate with architects, engineers of record, fabricators and others on product design requirements
  • Become conversant in AISC, AISI, SJI, and SDI codes and specs.
  • Other duties as necessary

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Civil Engineering ideally with emphasis in structures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • PE or EIT in pursuit of PE licensure
  • Prior structural and/or joist experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in interpreting structural drawings and contract documents preferred

New Millennium serves the domestic construction market from six steel fabrication facilities spanning the continental U.S. Its first plant at Butler, Indiana, began production in 2000. A second plant in Lake City, Florida, started up in 2005. The former John W. Hancock operation in Salem, Virginia, was purchased as a part of Steel Dynamics’s acquisition of Roanoke Electric in 2006. In 2010, SDI purchased three plants and other assets: Hope Arkansas; Fallon, Nevada; and Juarez, Mexico. These expand our geographical reach westward.
